## Summary

Abdul El-Sayed, who won Michigan’s Senate race and is set to become the first Muslim senator in the United States, drew criticism in Britain after a tense exchange with Sky News correspondent James Matthews. El-Sayed challenged Matthews for not being registered to vote in Michigan and said he had no interest in votes or opinions from the UK.

Matthews replied that the election had consequences beyond the United States and said he was asking questions rather than chasing El-Sayed. The exchange, in which El-Sayed also clapped and put his hands on Matthews’ shoulders, was viewed more than 6.5 million times on X.
