## Key points

- A viral exchange has renewed scrutiny of El-Sayed’s interactions with reporters.
- The article describes several earlier tense interviews.
- Tim Young says El-Sayed’s clashes differ from Trump’s.

## Summary

The new coverage highlights a pattern of tense exchanges between senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed and reporters, following a viral confrontation with Sky News correspondent James Matthews shortly before El-Sayed’s election victory in Michigan. The article focuses on his sharp responses to questions about politically sensitive subjects and contrasts them with President Donald Trump’s disputes with the press.

In the Election Day exchange, El-Sayed asked Matthews whether he was registered to vote in Michigan; after Matthews said he was not and identified himself as a journalist, El-Sayed questioned why he should speak with him. The article also cites confrontations with NBC’s Tom Llamas, Free Press reporter Audrey Fahlberg and Fox News anchor Bret Baier, including questions about alleged family links to the Muslim Brotherhood and leaked audio. Heritage Foundation media fellow Tim Young argues the situations involving El-Sayed and Trump are different.
