Abertay University in Dundee has been ranked the top university in Europe and fifth globally for games design by the Princeton Review, cementing its reputation nearly 30 years after it pioneered the world's first video game degrees. The Dundee-born GTA creator David Jones helped establish the original course, and computing-related subjects remain the university's flagship offering, though its overall league table position has slipped this year due to weak graduate employment outcomes.

Computing courses make up nine of Abertay's 52 undergraduate degrees, alongside subjects such as accounting, psychology, food and sport. New facilities include a sports therapy laboratory and a Cylera and Cisco cybersecurity command centre, while the university has ranked in the UK's top 40 for teaching, student support and student experience. However, fewer than 60% of graduates enter high-skilled jobs, placing it in the bottom 20 nationally on that measure. With under 3,500 full-time undergraduates, Abertay offers around 30 scholarships and bursaries, including support for students from England, Wales and Northern Ireland to offset Scotland's four-year degree structure, and benefits from Dundee's relatively low living costs, with rents roughly 40% cheaper than Edinburgh.
