The Pokémon TCG community has mourned Avery The Poke Kid, a 12-year-old creator who died after seven years battling pancreatic cancer. Shortly before his death, Avery pulled a special-illustration Jirachi card from a 30th Anniversary pack, a moment fans found especially poignant because of Jirachi’s wish-granting mythology.

Avery’s parents said collecting cards gave him hope during difficult hospital visits, while he encouraged fans to value cards they genuinely loved rather than those worth the most. Illustrator Akira Egawa, who created the Jirachi card, said she was deeply moved and grateful to have continued drawing, while fellow creator BeardDadCardz pledged to preserve Avery’s legacy of kindness and joy.
