Accused Charlie Kirk assassin allegedly confessed in texts, apologized and described motive, agent testifies
A Utah State Bureau of Investigation agent testified at a preliminary hearing that Tyler Robinson, 23, allegedly confessed by text message to assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk, apologised for his actions and described his motive. The testimony matters because it forms part of the prosecution's evidence in a high-profile political killing, seeking to establish that Robinson admitted responsibility and acted deliberately.
Robinson is charged with shooting Kirk on 10 September 2025 outside a "Prove Me Wrong" event at Utah Valley University in Orem. Agent Brian Davis read messages allegedly sent by Robinson to his roommate and partner, Lance Twiggs, shortly after the shooting, in which Robinson admitted he was the gunman, said he needed to retrieve his rifle from a "drop point", and claimed he acted because he "had enough of his hatred". The messages also referred to police detaining other people initially, and DNA from both Robinson and Twiggs was allegedly found on key evidence. A judge has ordered redactions to Twiggs's video testimony, and Kirk's family has demanded greater transparency over hidden evidence.
