An active shooter killed multiple civilians and wounded two police officers at an apartment building in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday afternoon, before being taken down by authorities and taken into custody, law enforcement sources confirmed. The attack, at the Loring Towers near 15 East Grant Street, triggered a massive emergency response involving local, state and federal agencies, and follows a string of recent shootings that have renewed scrutiny of gun violence and police safety in American cities.

One officer was shot in the stomach and the other in the leg while responding to the initial reports of gunfire; dispatch audio indicated the shooter was subsequently neutralised by responding officers. Minneapolis police, ATF agents, Hennepin County Sheriff's deputies, Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agents and FBI personnel all converged on the scene, with FBI Director Kash Patel pledging federal resources to assist local authorities.
