A two-year-old goldendoodle named Rocco reportedly died after being left chained outside for up to 15 hours a day in extreme Texas heat, despite repeated warnings from a concerned neighbour. Jaida Grace said she pleaded with the dog's owners in DeSoto, near Dallas, to bring him inside, contacted animal control and even offered to take ownership of Rocco herself, but the owners declined all assistance before the dog died alone outdoors.

Grace shared photos, videos and screenshots of her messages with the owners on the Public Accountability for Animal Welfare Facebook page, including footage appearing to show Rocco lying lifeless in the sun. DeSoto Police confirmed animal control responded to the property on 8 August and that an investigation is ongoing, though no further details have been released. The community has since launched a Change.org petition calling for the owners to face animal cruelty charges and urging Dallas County officials, including District Attorney John Creuzot, to strengthen enforcement, awareness campaigns and penalties for pet neglect in extreme heat.
