Adult Swim animator Jackson Publick has revealed that a planned spin-off of cult favourite series The Venture Bros., centred on the superhero trio the Order of the Triad, was pitched but ultimately rejected, and will now only exist as a concept shared online rather than as broadcast television. The disclosure closes a long-running chapter for fans of the show, which built a dedicated cult following over more than two decades but was cancelled by Adult Swim in 2018 before its eighth season could be completed, leaving its story unresolved until a follow-up film addressed it in 2023.

Publick, the show's creator, said he and writing partner Doc Hammer had worked on and off for years developing the spin-off idea, though no pilot was ever produced, meaning the project never progressed beyond a behind-the-scenes pitch. The proposed spin-off would have followed Dr Byron Orpheus, Jefferson Twilight and The Alchemist, a superhero team first properly introduced in the show's 2006 episode "Fallen Arches" and one that Publick and Hammer had publicly named as a favoured spin-off prospect as far back as a 2013 interview, underlining that the idea had been considered for well over a decade before finally being dropped.
