Malik Elassal, star of FX comedy Adults, has spoken about filming season two, which returned last week to widespread social media attention. He discussed the challenges of playing his character Samir across an emotionally demanding storyline, including a difficult breakup scene with girlfriend Carly (Rachel Marsh) and the surprise finale twist in which Samir ends up hooking up with his friend Billie (Lucy Freyer).

Elassal revealed that one basketball-shot scene in the dramatic season finale, involving a romantic gesture gone wrong, guest star Julia Fox and a group of "bro" characters, required around 40 takes to get right while he maintained an emotional performance. He also spoke about the difficulty of playing an unlikeable moment in episode six, "Pop Girlie," in which Samir discourages Carly from pursuing a K-pop career, and named a scene featuring co-star Julian Manjerico as the hardest he has ever had to film without breaking into laughter.
