## Key points

- Democrats plan major investigations after taking control of Congress.
- Proposed targets include Trump family business and crypto dealings.
- Leaders say alleged corruption affects everyday costs.

## Summary

After winning control of Congress in the midterm elections, Democrats say they will use their new subpoena powers and investigative resources to examine alleged corruption and self-enrichment involving President Donald Trump and people close to him. They plan to connect these concerns with voters’ worries about affordability, while Trump and his White House deny wrongdoing.

House investigations may cover Trump family businesses, the administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, immigration enforcement and construction projects. Senate Democrats have also named Trump’s real estate and cryptocurrency dealings, government efficiency measures and Medicare plans as possible targets. Several Democrats have raised the prospect of hearings; House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries has not ruled out a third impeachment effort against Trump.
