Speaking to Collider at San Diego Comic-Con, Ritchson explained that this deliberate creative choice communicates the character's intelligence, confidence and mindset without a word being spoken, offering fans a subtler way of understanding Lee Child's famous drifter.

Asked about a creative decision in the show that audiences might not consciously notice, Ritchson said he found the question difficult before settling on Reacher's gait as the answer, calling it "wholly distinct and unique" to the character. He described the walk as purposeful and methodical, with no wasted movement, arguing that it reveals as much about Reacher's mind as his physical fights or imposing build do.
