Àlex Palou has clinched the 2026 NTT IndyCar Series championship, securing his fourth consecutive title and fifth overall following a rain-disrupted doubleheader weekend at the Milwaukee Mile. The 29-year-old Spaniard, driving for Chip Ganassi Racing, needed only to protect a points lead rather than win outright, and did so by driving cautiously through a chaotic, weather-delayed race schedule that saw the two races finish in reverse order. The result cements Palou as one of the dominant forces in modern IndyCar and highlights an extraordinary run of consistency over the past four seasons.

Rain forced Race 1 to be red-flagged on Saturday and resume only on Sunday afternoon, so organisers ran the originally scheduled Race 2 first that morning, won by Arrow McLaren's Pato O'Ward, with Palou fifth. Palou then nursed his car home tenth once the delayed Race 1 concluded, enough to extend his championship lead beyond the 54-point cushion required to clinch the title with a race still to spare. He now sits third on IndyCar's all-time championships list, behind AJ Foyt (seven) and teammate Scott Dixon (six), with the season finale at Laguna Seca on 6 September.
