After eight seasons, The CW’s *All American* ended with a finale directed by Daniel Ezra, who played Spencer James. The episode brings Spencer back to Los Angeles in time for the birth of his twins and reunites the family, then jumps forward six years to show the characters pursuing established careers and family lives. It gives the long-running cast a closing chapter in which many of their ambitions have come to fruition.

The finale shows Spencer preparing to play his last Super Bowl before retirement, alongside KJ, who has reached the NFL. Coop becomes a lawyer, Amina helps elect her father Preach to local office, and Layla and Jordan have a daughter; Khalil is in medical school and Tori works with the Lakers’ dancers. In the interview, Ezra describes directing the episode as an emotional first real farewell to the cast and says he felt better prepared for its demands after directing several episodes and a short film.
