The cause of death for former All That actor Christy Knowings has been confirmed as cardiac arrest, with asthma listed as the underlying cause, according to a death certificate obtained by People. Knowings, best known for her sketch comedy work on the Nickelodeon show, died on 11 August after being taken off life support at a Los Angeles-area hospital. She was 46, and her death closes out the circumstances of an illness that had left her family facing a difficult decision earlier that month.

The death certificate cited acute hypoxic respiratory failure and status asthmaticus as contributing conditions. TMZ had previously reported, citing family sources, that Knowings suffered an asthma attack on 7 August that led to cardiac arrest, after which she was placed on life support; her family chose to withdraw it four days later. Knowings began her career on Rosie O'Donnell's 1997 Nickelodeon sketch show And Now This before joining the cast of All That for all three of its seasons, playing characters including Jessica from the "Whateverrr!!!" sketches and newscaster Brenda Stone. She later appeared in Sesame Street between 2008 and 2011 alongside her twin brother, actor Chris Knowings.
