Swedish director Amanda Kernell is set to premiere her third feature, "Brace Your Heart," at the Toronto and San Sebastián film festivals, with an exclusive trailer released via Variety. The film follows Ejva, a young woman who suddenly inherits her father's reindeer herd after his death and must navigate grief, growing responsibility and a fraught relationship with local leader Heaika, who expects favours in return for his help and disapproves of her feelings for his cousin. Kernell, best known for "Sámi Blood" and "Charter," wrote the script and describes wanting to centre a survivor's story rather than a victim's, reflecting themes of resilience within Sámi reindeer-herding communities.

The project, previously known as "The Curse: A Love Story," won the top prize at Haugesund's New Nordic Films Co-Production Market in 2023. It is sold internationally by TrustNordisk and produced by Eva Åkergren for Nordisk Film Production, with several co-producing partners including Forest People, Compass Films and Film i Väst. The cast is led by 18-year-old newcomer Elli Sara Valkeapää as Ejva, alongside Andte Gaup-Juuso and Vincent Niia; Kernell noted she adapted the script's language after casting Valkeapää, who speaks a different Sámi language to her own.
