Amazon gives up on MMOs, hands Lost Ark and Throne and Liberty to the original devs instead of shutting them down like New World

GamesRadar+ · 4 hours ago

Amazon Games will transfer Western operation of Lost Ark and Throne and Liberty back to their original developers, Smilegate RPG and NCSoft, rather than close the games. The move follows Amazon’s decision to end New World, and suggests it is further reducing its direct role in MMO publishing while allowing the two existing live-service games to continue.

Lost Ark’s handover is planned for early 2027 during a maintenance window, while NCSoft’s agreement for Throne and Liberty is expected to end on 1 February 2027, earlier than its potential 2029 term. Amazon had published Lost Ark in North America and Europe since 2022 and launched Throne and Liberty globally with NCSoft in 2024; New World is due to shut down on 31 January 2027.

  • Amazon is returning two MMOs to their original developers.
  • Lost Ark and Throne and Liberty are expected to continue.
  • New World will close in January 2027.
