Amazon is ending its role as western publisher of the MMORPGs Lost Ark and Throne and Liberty, transferring responsibility to their original companies while keeping both games available to players. The move means Amazon will exit the MMO publishing business it entered in 2016, following the closure of New World and the cancellation of a separate Lord of the Rings MMO.

NC will take over Throne and Liberty in the fourth quarter of 2026, while Smilegate will assume publishing of Lost Ark in early 2027. Characters and in-game currency are expected to transfer, although Throne and Liberty’s Auction House items remain under review; Lost Ark players will lose access to in-game mail and chat history. Amazon’s New World is scheduled to close on 31 January 2027, while the company shifts attention towards Luna casual games and larger licensed projects.
