Twitch will allow Amazon to use streamers’ audio and video content to train generative AI models by default, unless creators actively opt out. The decision has prompted strong criticism because it places the burden on creators to protect recordings of their likenesses and voices, while highlighting the value of Twitch’s large archive of livestream material to Amazon’s AI efforts.

During an official Twitch stream, chief product officer Mike Minton said an opt-in system would fail because “nobody would opt in”, while also saying he did not know whether Amazon had previously used Twitch videos for training. Streamers can opt out through Channel Settings, under Security and Privacy, by switching off “training for generative AI”; Twitch compared its approach with Meta’s use of public social-media content for AI training.
