Amelia Dimoldenberg: I wouldn’t invite Andy Burnham on Chicken Shop Date – but I’d love a chat
Amelia Dimoldenberg, creator of the YouTube series Chicken Shop Date, has said she would not invite new Prime Minister Andy Burnham onto her show, joking he is not her "type", but would welcome a conversation with him. Her comments come as Burnham, who has described himself as "social first", has signalled he intends to work with content creators to communicate directly with the public, a strategy some critics warn risks avoiding rigorous scrutiny of government policy.
Dimoldenberg, speaking to the BBC at Broadcasting House, said she viewed politicians engaging with influencers positively "because that is now where so many people get their news". She also discussed her Dimz Inc. Academy, a free scheme for 18 to 24-year-olds offering paid work placements and mentoring in the creative industries, which she is relaunching for a second year and extending from one week to four, citing concern over the number of young people not in employment, education or training. She said she would welcome discussing youth unemployment and apprenticeships with Burnham, and separately spoke about her expanding media work, including a second series of Passenger Princess and her Oscars red carpet interviews.
