- Held since 2022; reportedly catatonic for weeks
- Family's advocates raised alarm on Thursday

## Summary

Robert Gilman, a former US Marine who has been held in a Russian prison since 2022, is feared to be close to death after reportedly spending weeks in a catatonic state, advocacy groups representing his family have warned. The case underscores growing concern over the treatment and welfare of American detainees held in Russian custody, amid wider diplomatic tensions between Washington and Moscow.

Gilman's family and their advocates raised the alarm on Thursday, saying his condition had deteriorated significantly during his detention. Full details of the circumstances behind his imprisonment and the Russian authorities' response have not been made clear, though his case adds to a list of Americans held in Russia whose situations have drawn international attention and calls for intervention.
