A jury has found former *American Idol* contestant Caleb Flynn guilty of murdering his wife, Ashley, in their Ohio home in February. His mother, Kim, disputed the verdict after the trial, blaming media coverage and calling the evidence circumstantial; Flynn’s sentencing is set for 5 October, and he faces life in prison without parole.

Prosecutors said Flynn staged a burglary after shooting Ashley while she slept, with the couple’s two young daughters at home. They argued he wanted to end his marriage without losing custody, his job at his in-laws’ business or his church position. His former lover, church worship leader Alleigha Botner, testified that they had an 18-month affair, exchanged more than 100,000 messages and that Flynn had spoken of hating Ashley and thoughts of killing her.
