America’s image is falling behind that of China

The Hill ·

A Pew Research Center survey found that China is now viewed more favourably than the United States in many countries, signalling a notable reversal in global public opinion. The shift matters because it may weaken America’s diplomatic influence and suggests that US policies and relations with allies are affecting its international standing.

More than 42,000 people in 36 countries and territories were surveyed between February and May. China received more favourable ratings than the US in 25 places, while the US was rated more positively in only six; respondents in 22 also expressed more confidence in President Xi Jinping than in President Trump, though confidence in both leaders was often limited.
