Former Emmerdale and Downton Abbey actress Amy Nuttall has opened up about her personal struggles in a new interview, revealing how she has become the emotional anchor for her family following a difficult period. The comments come after her husband, actor Andrew Buchan, had an affair with his co-star Leila Farzad in late 2022, which resulted in a temporary separation, though the couple are believed to have since reconciled.

In the interview with 1883 magazine, the 44-year-old actress discussed the profound impact of losing her mother, Elaine, in 2023 at the age of 68 following a four-month battle with a grade 4 glioblastoma brain tumour. Nuttall reflected on discovering inner strength she didn't know she possessed, stating she has "coped with things I never imagined" she could, and drew parallels to her character in her latest role, Forever Home, a Channel 5 adaptation where the female lead holds her family together. The couple, who married in 2012 and have two children together, reportedly discovered the affair after Nuttall noticed concerning social media pictures and found her husband had been staying in a nearby hotel whilst claiming to be working away.
