## Summary

James Anderson says he is sad and shocked after Lancashire decided not to renew his contract, and he has yet to decide whether to play for another county. England’s record Test wicket-taker had hoped to finish his career at the club he supported as a child, but says the abrupt decision has left him questioning himself as he considers what comes next.

The 44-year-old took 50 County Championship wickets last season and captained Lancashire, who finished second bottom in Division Two. The club’s new leadership said it wanted to build an attack for the future; Anderson has also said England moved on from him in 2024. He has 704 Test wickets and 911 international wickets overall, while several counties are reportedly interested in signing him.
