Helloween singer Andi Deris says modern technology now allows the band to perform its older songs in their original tunings, reversing compromises made when frequent guitar retuning was less practical. He said this matters for faithfully presenting the group’s catalogue live, while maintaining the vocal routines needed for demanding performances.

Deris explained that from 2000’s The Dark Ride onwards, Helloween often played material half a tone down, sometimes adapting songs written in other tunings. He said lowering a song’s key unexpectedly during a tour would disrupt a singer’s technique, whereas rehearsing an entire set in a new key could work; sharing vocal duties with Michael Kiske and Kai Hansen also gives the singers recovery time. Helloween’s latest album, Giants & Monsters, was released in August 2025, following the expanded-line-up album Helloween in 2021.
