A teaser trailer has been released for Artificial, Luca Guadagnino's biopic about OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman, starring Andrew Garfield. The film will now be distributed by Neon after Amazon MGM Studios dropped it in June, a decision that came amid Amazon's expanding investment partnership with OpenAI, which could see it pour up to $35bn into the AI company. The trailer's ominous tone, with Altman declaring that "countries will fall" and "industries are gonna collapse", underscores the film's dramatisation of the turmoil around Altman's brief ousting and reinstatement as OpenAI chief executive.

The film premieres at the New York Film Festival in October before its US release on 25 December, and features Yura Borisov as OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever, Ike Barinholtz as Elon Musk, plus Monica Barbaro, Cooper Hoffman, Jason Schwartzman, Chris O'Dowd, Zosia Mamet, Cooper Koch and Billie Lourd. Neon, which acquired the film on 30 June, has become a major awards-season player behind Parasite, Anatomy of a Fall and Anora, and this year's slate also includes Fjord, Paper Tiger and All of a Sudden. Garfield has said he never met Altman but suggested such leaders need "a certain ability to dissociate", while co-star Cooper Hoffman said he wasn't surprised Amazon walked away from the project.
