Andrew Watt on His Insane 2026:  Madonna, McCartney, the Stones, Gaga

Rolling Stone ·

Andrew Watt describes an exceptionally busy year producing and writing with artists including Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Brandi Carlile and Michael Stipe. His collaborations show how he helps established musicians develop new work, while adapting his approach to each artist’s style and circumstances.

Watt says he introduced Madonna and Charli XCX before they worked together on a remix of “Danceteria”, a song inspired by Madonna’s early New York club years. He calls his ongoing work with Gaga deeply personal and says it has brought him to tears. For Elton John’s next album, Watt has helped devise a process in which John creates melodies from drum tracks, allowing Bernie Taupin to shape lyrics around them as John’s sight loss changes how he writes.

  • Andrew Watt worked with a remarkable range of music legends.
  • He connected Madonna and Charli XCX for a “Danceteria” remix.
  • Elton John is adapting his songwriting process as his sight declines.
