## Key points

- Andy Burnham's wife told him not to seek Labour leadership again
- She noted the party had rejected him twice already
- Comments fuel speculation over a possible third leadership bid

## Summary

Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, has revealed that his wife Marie-France warned him off launching a third bid for the Labour Party leadership, telling him that the party had already twice rejected him and did not want him as leader. Burnham has run unsuccessfully for the Labour leadership on two previous occasions, and speculation has persisted about whether he might attempt another challenge amid ongoing questions over Sir Keir Starmer's leadership. His decision on whether to pursue the role again carries significance for the party's internal dynamics as it faces pressure from within its ranks.

Burnham disclosed the private conversation with his wife in comments reported by the Daily Mail, in which she bluntly told him "they have told you twice they don't want you" as a reason not to try again. The remark reflects the personal toll and repeated setbacks Burnham has faced in his leadership ambitions, while also underscoring the wider debate within Labour about potential challengers to the current leadership. No further details on timing or a formal announcement of any leadership bid were given in the article.
