ANDY SCOTT On Existence Of Another Version Of SWEET Band Without Any Original Members: ‘It Really Isn’t Right’

Blabbermouth · 2 hours ago

SWEET guitarist Andy Scott has spoken out against a separate touring and recording act in America using the name THE SWEET, despite having no members from the original band's lineup. Scott explained the situation stems from the estate of late SWEET bassist Steve Priest, whose widow now runs the US-based group, and said American trademark law prevents him from stopping it, unlike in most other countries where he holds full rights to the name.

Speaking on the Land Of Music Podcast, Scott said he might tour the US under an adjusted name such as "UK SWEET" with a British flag to distinguish his band from the rival act. He drew parallels with THE ZOMBIES and LITTLE RIVER BAND, both of which have also had non-original lineups performing under their names in America, suggesting it is a recurring pattern in the US market. Scott previously discussed the issue in a 2024 interview, noting that former bandmates Priest and singer Brian Connolly had both declined or been unable to rejoin the reformed lineup before their deaths.
