Anne Hathaway has joined Tom Cruise in Paramount Pictures’ Days of Thunder 2, with Cruise confirming the casting and a 2 June 2028 release date in a social-media post from Daytona. The sequel brings Cruise back as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle and pairs him with Hathaway, helping Paramount build a high-profile revival of the 1990 racing film.

Jonathan Levine will direct the film, which is being fast-tracked as Cruise’s next project and will be made for IMAX, with Dolby Cinema, 4DX and other premium-format releases planned. Hathaway is expected to play a team owner and engineer; Will Staples wrote the script, while Cruise, Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper will produce. The original Days of Thunder earned $157.9 million worldwide.
