Anne Hathaway’s $80M Sci-Fi Thriller Crosses Major Box Office Milestone
The End of Oak Street, an $80 million sci-fi thriller starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, has crossed a notable box office milestone just three days into its release. Directed by David Robert Mitchell and produced by J.J. Abrams, the film draws on the "mystery-box" storytelling style Abrams popularised in the 2000s and 2010s, and arrives as a rare original genre release amid a market currently dominated by Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey.
The film met its opening-weekend projections and has already surpassed $50 million worldwide, in the process overtaking the lifetime gross of a celebrated creature-feature classic. The story follows a suburban family transported back to prehistoric times, with Maisy Stella and Christian Convery playing the siblings. It is Mitchell's most expensive film to date, and marks Hathaway's third major release this year, following The Devil Wears Prada 2 and The Odyssey, which have together grossed nearly $2 billion worldwide.
