Anthony Michael Hall has said that John Hughes considered making a sequel to *The Breakfast Club* centred on its five original characters as adults in their thirties and working lives. Hall said Hughes mentioned the idea during a telephone call around 1988, several years after the 1985 film’s release; Hughes died in 2009. Hall played Brian Johnson alongside Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson and Ally Sheedy, whose characters meet during Saturday detention, and he also recalled Hughes pitching *Weird Science* while *The Breakfast Club* was still being filmed.
