Anya Taylor-Joy on the Bittersweet ‘Lucky’ Finale and Why ‘Dune 3’ Exceeded Expectations
Anya Taylor-Joy has reflected on the bittersweet ending of Apple TV's limited series "Lucky," in which her con-artist character finally breaks free from a lifetime of crime and manipulation. In the finale, "All Good Things," Lucky loses her husband Cary (Drew Starkey) in a fatal car chase and cuts ties with her incorrigible con-man father, John (Timothy Olyphant), before choosing to return $10 million in stolen money to the FBI rather than keep it for herself.
The money had originally been skimmed by John from Cary's parents, Priscilla (Annette Bening) and Wayne (William Fichtner), with Wayne killed by Priscilla after driving the season-long effort to reclaim it. Taylor-Joy told The Hollywood Reporter that the finale marks the first time Lucky defines herself rather than being told who she is. She also discussed her forthcoming role as Alia in Denis Villeneuve's "Dune: Part Three," due out in December, saying the film exceeded her expectations after a difficult experience making "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga."
