## Summary

Apple has unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable handset, at a keynote that also marked John Ternus's debut as chief executive following Tim Cook's departure on 1 September. The launch sees Apple enter a foldable smartphone market pioneered by Samsung's Galaxy Fold in 2019 and since joined by Honor, Google, Motorola and Oppo. Alongside the Duo, Apple also announced the iPhone 18, 18 Pro and Pro Max, new AirPods 5, and updated Apple Watch models with improved health sensors.

The Duo has a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner screen, roughly iPad Mini-sized and Apple's largest and thinnest iPhone yet, built with a titanium frame, Ceramic Shield glass and IP68 water resistance; notably it drops Face ID in favour of Touch ID built into the side power button and is the first iPhone to support the USB-C Apple Pencil. It runs iOS 27 with foldable-specific features such as Split View multitasking and camera tools that use the outer screen for selfie previews, offers up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display or 44 on the outer, and starts at $1,999 for 256GB, rising to $3,199 for 2TB, in Star White or Night Sky; preorders open 16 October ahead of sales beginning 23 October.
