Apple is reportedly discussing payments to publishers so that an upgraded, AI-powered Siri can provide users with up-to-date news and information. The move would help Apple improve Siri’s usefulness and could set a different commercial model for how AI companies obtain and use publishers’ content.

Rather than paying fixed licensing fees for broad content access, Apple has proposed compensating publishers when their material is actually used. The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple has considered a nine-figure budget, while the enhanced Siri is expected to launch later this year; Apple did not immediately comment.
