Apple TV Inks Deal With Yahoo Sports for Free Alt-Casts of MLS Matches and MLB Games (but Only the First Two Innings)

Variety · 5 hours ago

Apple TV has partnered with Yahoo Sports to offer free alternate broadcasts of four upcoming games, aiming to raise awareness of the sports content already available on Apple's streaming platform. Over the next two months, Yahoo Sports will stream free "alt-cast" versions of two MLB "Friday Night Baseball" fixtures and two Major League Soccer matches via its website and app, using unique camera angles supplied by Apple TV and linking viewers directly to the main Apple TV broadcast.

The baseball coverage, limited to just the first two innings of each game, will feature the Detroit Tigers hosting the Cleveland Guardians on 4 September and the Philadelphia Phillies facing the New York Mets on 18 September, called by "Baseball Bar-B-Cast" podcast hosts Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman. The MLS alt-casts will cover full matches, including the Campeones Cup between Inter Miami and Cruz Azul on 16 September and Inter Miami against FC Cincinnati on 28 October, commentated by "The Cooligans" podcast hosts Alexis Guerreros and Christian Polanco. Yahoo Sports GM Jarrod Schwarz said the tie-up pairs the platforms' commentary talent with Apple TV's live coverage, while Yahoo will also promote the games through marketing, articles and social content.
