Apple’s Most Underrated Hard Sci-Fi Is Officially Ending With Season 3 [Exclusive]

Collider · 3 hours ago

Apple TV+'s sci-fi drama Dark Matter will end after its third season, with creator Blake Crouch and executive producer Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry revealing they mapped out the concluding chapter alongside Season 2, always intending to tell a complete three-season story rather than continue indefinitely. The announcement matters because it settles the show's future scope: after its first season adapted Crouch's entire bestselling novel, Season 2 pushed the series into entirely original territory, and fans had been left wondering how far the story could be stretched.

Speaking to Collider at San Diego Comic-Con, Crouch admitted that writing beyond the source novel was daunting, since the writers' room "blew through everything" from the book during Season 2 and had to create new material at speed rather than over the years a novel might take. Season 2 sees Joel Edgerton reprise his role as Jason Dessen alongside Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, Oakes Fegley, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi, Amanda Brugel and Zoë Soul, with the newly confirmed Season 3 set to bring the trilogy to its planned conclusion.
