Apple’s new CEO could change when it launches phones and laptops
Apple’s new chief executive, John Ternus, is considering having the company introduce products more frequently than its traditional autumn and spring launches, according to a Bloomberg report. The reported aim is to move faster and experiment more as Apple competes in the era of artificial intelligence, though established product-development practices could delay any change.
Apple is said to have products in development including updated HomePod Mini, iPad Mini and Apple TV 4K devices, camera-equipped AirPods, touchscreen MacBooks and a 20th-anniversary iPhone. Ternus is also considering reducing management layers between engineers and senior executives; Bloomberg says several engineering programme managers were dismissed in the past two weeks. The report adds that Apple had considered cutting 5,000 AppleCare customer-service jobs, but put that plan on hold.
- Ternus is considering more frequent Apple product launches.
- Apple’s established development process may slow any shift.
- Several engineering managers were dismissed; proposed AppleCare cuts are on hold.
