Archaeologists in Egypt have uncovered the remains of an ancient Christian city dating back roughly 1,700 years, to the earliest centuries of Christianity. Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced the find on 3 July, highlighting it as a significant addition to understanding early Christian life in the region and adding to Egypt's rich archaeological record.

The remnants, which include a church and what is believed to be a deacon's home, were unearthed during excavation work at the Ain al-Sabil archaeological site in the Dakhla Oasis. Further details on the scale of the site and ongoing excavation work have not yet been released.
