## Summary

A 21-year-old man was fatally shot during an argument with another man at a Spirit Halloween shop in Madison Heights, near Detroit, on 30 October. Police say the men knew each other and that investigators do not believe the shooting was random; they say there is no known ongoing threat to public safety.

Officers found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds and gave first aid before he was taken to hospital, where he died. Police recovered a 9mm handgun and detained a 21-year-old person of interest, who was injured after bystanders assaulted him and is receiving hospital care. Investigators have sent their findings to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for review; the detained man’s wife told local media he fired in self-defence, a claim that has not been established by police.
