Ariana Grande is stepping back from public life after her current tour, citing "endless, ongoing public scrutiny" over persistent online commentary about her weight and appearance. The move comes three years after she first asked fans to stop commenting on her body, and follows the release of her new single "Petal", whose video and lyrics address the pressures of fame and body-image criticism.

The announcement, made via her spokesperson, means Grande will finish the Eternal Sunshine Tour—continuing in Chicago before ten dates at London's O2 arena ending 1 September—before taking a break from public-facing work. As a result, she will no longer star opposite her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey in Sondheim's Sunday in the Park with George at London's Barbican in 2027. Grande, who has been in the public eye since her mid-teens, said she has "heard every version" of criticism about her appearance over the years, describing the constant attention as difficult to shield herself from.
