The US Army has announced the first overseas test of a new electronic warfare system called "Hammer of the Gods," designed to covertly jam or scramble the navigation signals that guide enemy precision-guided weapons. The aim is to make it harder for adversaries to accurately hit targets from long range while keeping the source of the interference concealed, reflecting a wider push within the US military to counter increasingly sophisticated long-range strike threats.

The system was first tested at sea off the US West Coast in mid-July before this overseas trial, conducted as part of the Army's Project Convergence exercise series, which evaluates new technologies for future combined-arms warfare. The development comes as senior NATO figures, including French Admiral Pierre Vandier, have warned that Western weapons systems need to be redesigned for modern warfare, citing lessons from Ukraine showing that current arsenals cannot be produced at the scale now required.
