Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced hasn’t set sail yet, but it’s already doing better than Shadows on Steam
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft's remake of its 2013 pirate-themed adventure, is already outperforming last year's Assassin's Creed Shadows in pre-launch sales despite not being released until 9th July. According to market analyst Rhys Elliott of games data firm Alinea, the remake has taken more than 300,000 Steam pre-orders, worth almost $14m in gross revenue, indicating strong demand for the returning title starring Edward Kenway.
Elliott estimates Resynced has sold 5.39 times more copies on PC than Shadows did over the same pre-release period, and expects even stronger performance on PlayStation owing to nostalgia among PS4-era players. For context, Shadows has sold 5.7m copies globally (1.3m on Steam), below 2018's Odyssey, which reached 10m by March 2020. Ubisoft is reportedly already working on a Resynced version of the original 2007 game, while Eurogamer's review awarded Black Flag Resynced three stars, calling it a "perfectly fine" way to experience the tale.
