Aston Villa seal loan signing of Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea
Aston Villa have signed Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho on a season-long loan, deepening the trade relationship between the two clubs this summer. The deal includes a conditional obligation for Villa to buy the Argentinian, at a fee expected to mirror the £40m Chelsea paid Manchester United for him last August, after he fell out of favour under new manager Xabi Alonso and was told he would not be guaranteed regular playing time.
Garnacho featured in 43 games for Chelsea, scoring eight goals, but did not report for pre-season training as pre-arranged while his exit was finalised, and he missed out on this summer's World Cup despite being named in Argentina's initial 55-man squad. The move follows Morgan Rogers' £117m transfer to Chelsea this week and continues a long-running exchange between the clubs, while Villa have also lost Youri Tielemans to Manchester United and are managing the fallout of a partially suspended £19.4m Uefa fine for breaching squad-cost rules.
