At least 8 killed, including children, in shootout at Montana home before suspect burns property to the ground

Daily Mail · 4 hours ago

A gunman opened fire on a family home in Billings, Montana, killing at least eight people, including two children, before setting the property alight. Police arrived within ten minutes of the shooting starting on Monday evening, but were too late to save the family; the blaze quickly engulfed the house, with firefighters hampered by the lack of nearby fire hydrants. The gunman was later found dead near the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and his relationship to the family remains unclear.

Among the victims were 15-year-old Landon and 12-year-old Charlotte Ghekiere, whose parents Adam Ghekiere, Erica Jarussi Schneider and stepfather Danny were not present at the time. One person survived and was taken to hospital in an unknown condition. Authorities said gunshots were audible during a 911 call and the fire began within three minutes of the shooting. The other victims' identities have not yet been released, and the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office, along with other agencies, is investigating the circumstances leading up to the attack.
