## Summary

Bernie Taupin has released *The Sea Has No Mercy*, a reflective solo album that brings his own voice and songwriting into focus. Best known for writing lyrics for Elton John, he says he values being able to live anonymously, in contrast to John’s intense public profile.

The 76-year-old recorded the album in Nashville with producer Frank Liddell, with country singer Lee Ann Womack contributing backing vocals. Taupin has made solo records before, but says he was previously reluctant to pursue a performer’s career; he also co-wrote hits including Heart’s “These Dreams” and Starship’s “We Built This City”.
