An Australian father has come forward as the mystery winner of a $2.2 million Division One Lotto prize, having unknowingly carried the winning ticket around in a bag for almost two weeks before it was checked. He only discovered his fortune when he visited his regular newsagency for an unrelated errand and the shop owner recognised him as the sought-after winner, despite the man's own initial confusion over the encounter.

The winning ticket was purchased at Toongabbie Newsagency on Aurelia Street in western Sydney, matching all six numbers drawn in Saturday Lotto draw 4709 on 5 September 2026: 40, 27, 17, 43, 5 and 38, with supplementary numbers 2 and 39. The winner said the money would ease financial pressure on his family, while newsagency owner Robert Chong noted the outlet has now sold seven Division One winning entries in just six years.
