Australian tourist Iona Pegley and her boyfriend, Joseph Jelic, endured a luggage ordeal during a holiday in Sardinia after their bags were first left behind in Madrid and then stolen from their car. The couple had postponed a boat trip while waiting for the airline to deliver the luggage, but ultimately left it in the car when Jelic swam out to join the group; thieves later broke into the vehicle and took their bags, passports, electronics and other belongings.

Using Apple AirTags, the couple discovered that the stolen luggage had been dumped in nearby bushes. Jelic and others followed the tracker’s sound through a thorny area, where they found the suitcases broken open and their contents scattered, recovering most of their belongings and passports despite the damage and injuries sustained while retrieving them.
