West Australian police officer Nickolas Wayne Peake, 30, has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault after allegedly assaulting his five-week-old daughter in Perth’s east. He remains stood down from operational duties, while the case has prompted protective measures for his wife and child and an internal police review.

The baby was taken to Perth Children’s Hospital as a precaution, though the court did not hear details of the alleged assault. Peake is living with his parents, undergoing counselling and barred from contacting his wife and child; he will be sentenced on 13 October and faces up to three years in prison or a A$36,000 fine.
