AUTOPSY: ‘Mental Funeral’ Special 35th-Anniversary Editions Due In August
The death metal band Autopsy will reissue their acclaimed second studio album, "Mental Funeral", in two special editions to mark its 35th anniversary. Peaceville is set to release the reissues on 14 August, both featuring newly remastered audio produced by the band's current bassist, Greg Wilkinson, at his Earhammer Studios. The album, originally released in 1991, is widely regarded as one of the finest death metal records ever made, known for its raw, organic production.
The two formats comprise a red/green ink spot vinyl edition and a double-disc CD version. The latter adds a bonus commentary disc on which founding members Chris Reifert, Eric Cutler and Danny Coralles recount the writing and recording of the album's 12 tracks. "Mental Funeral" was recorded at Different Fur Studios in late 1990, engineered by Ron Rigler, with cover art by Kev Walker, who had also designed the sleeve for the band's 1989 debut, "Severed Survival". Autopsy formed in San Francisco in 1987, disbanded in 1995, and returned from hiatus in 2010, with its core trio still active as the group approaches its 40th anniversary.
